Bike Commuting from Ilsan to Seoul Along the Han River
Cycling · Published 6/18/2024 ·
This is my bike commute from Ilsan into the city, riding along the Han River bike path.

This is the intersection right before the entrance to Jeyu-ro 2 (the Second Freeway). It’s not morning — that’s the sun going down in the evening. I had a meeting the next day, so… I headed into the office in the evening.

Go straight along the road you see in the photo below, up the hill, and keep going straight — the underpass (the “rabbit hole”) is on your left.

Take the Han River bike path, pass Haengjusanseong Fortress… and just keep going straight and you’ll arrive in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu. The photo below is World Cup Bridge.

Here’s World Cup Bridge with its slight curve. At night it puts on a really gorgeous view.

I came in at the north end of World Cup Bridge and headed into DMC in Sangam-dong. Then I looped around behind Haneul Park, came back up, and crossed at the crosswalk by the President Park Chung-hee Memorial.

It’s a crosswalk you can ride across on your bike. There’s a marking on the right side of the crosswalk showing where bikes are allowed to ride.
I rode about 25km to get to work. It took me roughly an hour and ten minutes — what with waiting at crosswalks and one thing and another…
If you come into Sangam-dong via the west side of the north end of World Cup Bridge, it’s downhill all the way into the neighborhood. If that’s where you’re headed, it’s worth keeping in mind.
