서울근교산행 북한산 — Bukhansan National Park Hiking Guide

서울근교산행 북한산

Bukhansan’s Baegundae peak is actually part of Goyang City, believe it or not ^^ Its old name was Samgaksan.

It’s the closest place you can reach from Seoul or Gyeonggi-do — and it’s a full-blown national park, no less!

I’ve been here plenty of times, across all the seasons.

You can tell at a glance it was brutally hot that day.

I’ve got my whole head covered up with a hat ^^

Yeah, that really does look hot.

Wow, this was so long ago that my Garmin unit is huge. These days a wristwatch does the whole job.

This one looks like it was an even hotter day.

This must be somewhere around Uisangbong — seriously steep.

An hour or two after you start climbing, you can find yourself walking right into scenery like this.

Pretty high up, isn’t it?

Having a national park this close to Seoul and Gyeonggi-do is honestly close to a blessing.

Bukhansan has 14 trails, and if you count the off-limits routes too, apparently there are more than 20.

It’s also the final mountain on that famous Bul-Su-Sa-Do-Buk course.

It’s a very rocky mountain, and one where slip-and-fall accidents never stop happening in winter.

Being close doesn’t make it an easy mountain.

There’s no water to refill along the way, and once you commit to a ridgeline, getting back out takes anywhere from an hour and a half at the shortest to two or three hours — so don’t go in taking it lightly.

It varies by season, but always bring plenty of water, and pack plenty of trail snacks too ^^

And even though it’s right up against Seoul, you’d be surprised how often you can’t get a phone signal.

It’s an area that drains your phone battery fast, so make sure you head up with plenty of charge.

Next time I’ll introduce it with a focus on the data — difficulty by trail, GPX files, expected water needs, and so on.

Thanks for reading.
