MKS Sylvan Stream Pedal Upgrade for the Brompton P-line

친구녀석의 브롬톤… — here’s the natural English translation:
My buddy’s Brompton P-line is a 2022 model, bought right in the thick of the COVID era. He drove all the way down to Gwangju, in Jeolla Province, to pick it up — and the modified pedals on that P-line had been going click, click with every rotation, rolling about as smoothly as a brick. Those pedals were limping along on their last legs, so I decided to replace them with the absolute king of flat pedals.

The MKS Sylvan Stream Next Easy Superior… or, as most people just call it, “that pedal with the really long name.”

Made in Japan…;; Their bearing tech must be something special. The roll is genuinely fantastic… The price, not so much…

They’re packed separately so they won’t scratch each other, and tied up nice and snug. The packing is excellent.

A size comparison with the pedals I’m currently using… I went with the Stream over the Touring since it’s a touch lighter, but I was worried it might end up too small… For a normal-sized foot, though, the Stream is plenty. Don’t bother going up to the Touring… it just adds weight.
I bought these to use on the Brompton P-line.
Most minivelo pedals fold on one or both sides. The reason is that when you fold the bike up to stick it in a car trunk or wherever, the pedal would otherwise prop the bike up off the floor — so they fold to take up as little space as possible. The MKS pedals, on the other hand, detach completely on both sides. That means you’ve got the option of storing the bike in an even tighter spot.
The stock Brompton pedals only fold on the left side. The right one doesn’t fold at all. Because of that, the folding left pedal is way heavier than the right, it looks off-balance, and on top of all that!! the roll isn’t great either…
The price is downright wicked, but for your average middle-aged guy cruising at 18–25 km/h, this little pedal tune-up feels like it bumps your average speed up by about 2 km/h. And with less rolling resistance, the whole thing starts to feel like a purer cardio workout.
If you can spare the cash, it’s worth considering as an upgrade ^^
And that’s my “bought-it-with-my-own-money” MKS pedal review.
Thanks for reading.
