Sangam to DMC: An Early Morning Recovery Run

Running · Published 3/12/2024 ·

I spend my weekdays living near MBC in Sangam-dong. I’m slowly settling into a neighborhood routine, so I’ve been scouting out places to run in the early mornings. Today I kept it light, almost like a recovery run, going from MBC to DMC. I’ve been off running for a really long time, so my body isn’t what it used to be, and it was obvious my joints and everything else would take a beating. So I went even slower than that. Slow enough that you couldn’t really tell if I was walking or running…

Around MBC, SBS, and YTN there are crosswalks one after another, so you end up stopping and starting over and over. But if you take the route along the railroad tracks that runs from Susaek Station, the path is a little narrow and not the most comfortable, but there are no crosswalks, so you can make it all the way to DMC Station without any hassle. And if you want to push past DMC and add some more distance, you just cross the road once and head down toward Bulgwangcheon.

I ran in my Pegasus. Honestly, whatever shoes I wear feel comfortable to me. Which is another way of saying my pace and everything else has been completely reset to zero.

This is the new MBC building. Lit up bright even at this hour of the morning.

I figured I’d taken it so easy that I wouldn’t have broken a sweat, but lo and behold… when I pulled out my access card, there were little beads of sweat on it. A really satisfying kind of sweat.

Breakfast was a frozen lunchbox and frozen chicken breast. There’s not really anywhere else to eat at this hour anyway. Looks a bit short on fiber. I’ll have to make up for that at lunch.

I figured the distance wouldn’t amount to much, but it still came out to over 2 kilometers. Not bad at all for a morning jogging course. Next time, once the routine settles in a bit more, I should bump up the time. Past Bulgwangcheon to Hongjecheon, or if I get a little greedy, a round trip out to Sangam Naru might be nice too.

Pace came out to 7:30. It was all over the place, but for a recovery run — a getting-back-into-it run — that’s not bad. I’d wanted to run closer to 8:00, but it didn’t quite happen.

I’ll keep hunting for places to run around Sangam-dong and post about them as I go.

Thanks for reading.
