Banpo to Worldcup Bridge: A Relaxed Summer Night Bike Ride
Cycling · Published 5/24/2024 ·
It gets pretty hot during the day.
So riding at night is just fine.

Ipha (the start of summer) has come and gone, and it really does feel like summer now. The daytime heat is blazing. We haven’t had any rain lately, either.

I set off from the Anyangcheon confluence and arrived at the south end of Banpo Bridge.

This spot — “Banjiss,” as it’s nicknamed ^^ — is a favorite among cyclists. It’s a great place for folks living on the east side and folks on the west side to meet up and grab a drink together.

I’m not sure what it’s called — Saebit something? — but I lined the bikes up over there and took a shot. The photos really came out nicely.

One more at a different exposure…

A great shot somebody else took…

The colors look a bit touched up here… Android-type cameras and iPhone-type cameras really do have a very different feel to them.

And back toward Worldcup Bridge…
Today’s route was an easy one — I rode at the back at a relaxed 20 km/h. A very comfortable ride.

Night riding gets a little chilly. So I’d recommend packing a thin windbreaker. You may not end up wearing it, but you feel kind of empty without one.
Riding in the daytime heat in summer leaves your skin scorched dark. I’m already a lost cause on that front… but if you’d rather not, starting out around sunset and doing a night ride is a good option too. There are definitely fewer people at night than during the day, which is nice. On the way back, I crossed Mapo Bridge. Of all the bridges you can cross by bike, it felt the most comfortable. I could handle all the ups and downs without ever having to get off and walk the bike.
Thank you.
