Han River Night Ride on a Brompton P Line: World Cup & Banpo Bridges

I went out for a night ride for the first time in a while. I started from DMC in Sangam-dong — a pretty standard route that crosses the World Cup Bridge, loops around Banpo, and comes back.

This is the Anyangcheon confluence, or “Anhap” for short. The view of the World Cup Bridge from Anhap is just stunning. Even though I’d just crossed it minutes earlier, it still looked gorgeous.

After riding and riding, I finally made it to Banpo Bridge.

How can a bridge be this hip? Concerts, busking, workouts, dates, food — you name it. Banpo Bridge really is something special.

I’d ridden 19 km to get here. That’s my Garmin Edge 840.

The fountain spraying out beautifully. Luckily there was no wind, so I dodged the spray. ^^

This is my Brompton P Line. I bought it planning to ride it a ton, but the “front-door threshold curse” is real, and getting myself out the door is always a struggle.

Yeouido as seen from Mapo. You can spot Bamseom island in the middle, and Yeouido always puts on a gorgeous night view.

For short stretches — like taking an elevator — it’s actually easier to just fold it up and carry it, and you don’t get in anyone’s way.

The Brompton P Line looks great even folded. By now I’ve gotten used to it, so even the chunky part of the frame doesn’t look odd to me anymore. ^^

Total distance: 35 km. That’s a good distance for a night ride — over an hour and a half of cardio, so if I did it often the body fat would surely melt off… but man, it’s tough. The route crossing the World Cup Bridge and coming back over Banpo Bridge is really nice. The south side of the Han has a bit of a “camel’s back” up-and-down section, so I figure it’s best to tackle it while you’ve still got energy on the way out, then take the easy road back. ^^
