Shokz OpenRun Pro Bone-Conduction Earphones: A 1-Year Review

When you’re out running or hiking for hours, throwing on some atmospheric music makes the whole thing a lot more fun.

It makes me feel like I’m the star of my own music video. Sorry about that.

Today I’m going to talk about a pair of earphones I’ve been using for about a year now.

These are the OpenRun Pro premium bone-conduction Bluetooth earphones.

According to the manufacturer, they use the latest 9th-generation bone-conduction technology and deliver crisp mids and highs along with deep bass.

Here’s a quick rundown of the specs.

So that’s what they look like.

They’re not exactly the flashy type — the sound comes out of those little bean-sprout-shaped knobs that sit just in front of your ears.

Because of the design, your ears stay completely open, so you can still hear what’s going on around you and react to it.

For example, if you’re riding your bike and a car honks behind you, you can respond right away.

And when I’m hiking, I can listen to music and chat with the group at the same time, no problem.

The band wraps around the back of your head.

And this is what they look like once they’re on.

Pros: Long playtime — I’ve gotten about 8 hours out of them.

Charging is super fast. It honestly feels like 10–20 minutes gets you a really solid charge.

I didn’t expect much, but the sound quality is surprisingly decent.

Water resistance that easily handles the kind of sweat you work up during exercise.

Cons: You can’t lean back and nap on the bus with these in your ears.

So I always pack a second pair of earphones for that.

The proprietary charging cable — losing it would be a real headache.
