HOKA Tecton X Trail Review: First Run on Jirisan

Up until now, I’d always worn my Zamberlan Tofanes for hiking.

And when it was genuinely hiking, boots were the right call.

This time I gave the Tectons their first run on my Seongjung traverse of Jirisan.

No problems on the trail. The thing is, the Tofanes are hiking boots that really lock your ankle in place, whereas the Tectons are basically just sneakers — so there’s a downside: your ankles, knees, and other joints are more exposed to injury.

The upside, of course, is how fast you can move… hehehe.

I tried running in these on the track and on regular roads, and honestly they hold their own as running shoes too.

The upper is made of a nice breathable material.

As you’d expect from this kind of shoe, the toe box is reasonably wide.

That said, it’s not as wide as an Altra.

Feels like a running shoe with really good grip ^^
