Cheorwon DMZ Marathon: My First Race in the Rain

Running · Published 9/5/2022 ·

A marathon with a lot of rain — the tail end of Typhoon Hinnamnor.

I was nursing an injury in my left ankle, but thankfully I still managed to finish.

My finish-time shot.

The finisher’s medal.

The 10k folks getting ready ^^

Strapping on the RFID tag for timing.

My heart rate had plenty of room to spare.

The reason I’d been pushing my training a little harder than usual was for exactly this — race day.

I had energy left in the tank, too ^^;

I tried to hold a 6:30 pace as much as I could. The course was a mix of uphills and downhills, and I had to run while keeping an eye on my left ankle, so I couldn’t run as freely as I’d have liked — but even so, my splits came out nice and steady.

This was my first-ever marathon, and the feeling of running down asphalt with the roads closed to traffic was completely different from running along a stream, a riverside, or a track.

Everyone was in a festival mood, and I just ran slowly at my own pace.

I’m grateful for a healthy, injury-free finish.
