Off-Season Road Bike Check-Up: TREK Emonda SL7 Maintenance

Daily · Published 12/18/2022 ·

After my last ride I just left it out on the balcony and never got around to any maintenance.

So I pulled it out to dust it off, put a little oil on it, and give it a spin.

It’s way too cold to go outside, so I figured I’d take the chance to get some work done while I had it in front of me.

These are carbon wheels. The spec says Pro 37.

The tires have been set up tubeless.

Even with tubeless, you still need to check the air pressure regularly.

Carbon wheels, huh — the technology these days is really something.

They’re light and have a bit of give to them, so the ride feels great.

People who don’t know assume road bikes ride rough, but these days the frame is carbon and so are the wheels.

Going tubeless lets you run lower pressure, which makes the ride even smoother.

I gave the front of the frame a good wipe-down too.

That white body just looks good.

Oiled up the chain and ran through the drivetrain for the first time in a while.

The Di2 shifting really is a joy — such a satisfying feel.

I got it serviced back in August but couldn’t make it in September. I should go in for a check-up before the season starts.

This is the saddle area. It needs to be torqued to spec.

I don’t own a torque wrench, so I’ll need the shop’s help with this one ^^;;

The clean Ultegra…

The shifting feels so good. Now I just need the engine to run well… (that’d be me.)

I wiped it down once, but I should hit a car wash and scrub off the grease and grime before the season.

Gave it a spin and it runs just fine.

That was a road bike check-up from a pot-bellied middle-aged guy stuck in the off-season.
