Road Bike vs. Mini Velo: Trek Emonda or Brompton P-Line?
Cycling · Published 10/10/2022 ·

This is the road bike vs. mini velo dilemma I keep circling back to.

Right now I own a #TREK Emonda SL7 and a #Brompton #Pline.
Neither was easy to get my hands on. Ever since COVID, production has fallen so far behind demand — whether it’s mass-produced or handmade — that these things are just hard to find.

I’m the type who has to try everything once a question gets stuck in my head, so I ended up with both.
I probably don’t need to spell out the pros and cons.
For long rides or covering ground quickly, the road bike wins hands down, no contest.
The difference in how worn out you feel afterward is huge, too.
The downside is that it takes a bit of prep. It’s a lot like skiing or snowboarding.
Digging out the boots, putting on the suit, now where did I put this? Where’s that? There’s a fair amount to round up.
The mini velo, by comparison, needs less fuss and feels lighter to deal with.
It’s casual.
Owning both isn’t a problem, but actually using both is where I hit a wall.
I should probably make up my mind soon.
