My Brompton's Brutal Initiation: A Fall Bike Ride Gone Sideways
Cycling · Published 10/2/2022 ·

This weekend I scarfed down a quick cup of yogurt in the morning and headed out for a roughly 4.5km one-way ride with my kid.

Here’s Goksan Station. Up to this point, everything was great.
The scent that signals the start of fall, plus the fallen leaves — it all put me in such a good mood.

So now my brand-new bike is sitting in the bathtub…
We’d moved onto the bike path… the kind that plenty of people walk along, too…
And I rolled right over some animal droppings with my bike. Ugh. Pretty sure it came from someone’s pet. Not a great feeling.

Moved it out to the balcony and it’s drying properly now.
Since it’s made of metal, I figured dunking it in water and pulling it back out wouldn’t hurt… and leaving it wet certainly wouldn’t do any good, so I blasted it with the circulator on high for over three hours, turning it this way and that.

It’s drying out nicely ^^;;

I tucked it in neatly right beside my road bike.
The biggest charm of this bike is how small it folds down.
Even though it went through a brutal initiation, it’s still a bike that makes me happy.
It’s a perfect bike for cruising around the neighborhood.
And of course, if your engine’s good, it handles long distances just fine too.
I have a feeling the Brompton is going to get plenty of use going forward.
Have a relaxing weekend ^^
