Brompton Quad Lock Phone Mount: Install & Folding Test
Cycling · Published 2/19/2024 ·
Riding around on my Brompton, I find I actually reach for my phone or need to check something surprisingly often.
Up to now I’ve been pulling it out of my bag or the pocket behind the saddle each time, but I figured I’d fix that little annoyance with a mount. I’m curious what I’ll gain and what I’ll give up. ^^
What I expect to lose: weight, simplicity, that sort of thing. What I gain is… convenience? I hope.

This is a Quad Lock product — probably better known as a motorcycle mount. I set it up with the vibration damper added on. Apparently if your phone is constantly exposed to vibration, various bits of it start to fail. So I added the vibration damper, which has three bushings inside to soak up the shaking. That said… riding only once or twice a month, I doubt my phone’s going to break from it. ^^;;

Here’s how it looks installed. I positioned it to keep it clear of the gear shifter. Doesn’t look bad, but I’ll need to live with it for a while and tweak as I go.

The phone mounts like this. Press the push lever and it pops off. It bolts on solidly with a hex wrench.

With a Brompton, every accessory has to clear the fold.
As you can see in the folding shots below, once you take the phone off there’s no interference.

I’ve tried a few different phone mounts for the Brompton. The downsides are that you have to use the proprietary case and the price is on the high side, but it’s easy to attach and remove, and it’s a reliable bit of kit.
Thanks for reading.
